MP Colin Carrie Calls On Government to Release Plan to Support Automotive Manufacturers
Ottawa January 26, 2016 – Dr. Colin Carrie, Member of Parliament for Oshawa and Deputy Health Critic, rose in the House of Commons today calling upon the Liberal Government to immediately develop and release an automotive manufacturing plan to protect and create well-paying middle class jobs in Oshawa.
“This Liberal Government is hurting the manufacturing sector with their job killing carbon tax, increased payroll taxes, and support for increased energy costs” stated Dr. Carrie. “They ignored the sector in their speech from the throne and the Prime Minister has even been quoted saying that “Ontario needs to transition away from manufacturing”.
2016 is a contract year, and a new mandate has yet to be established for the car assembly plant in Oshawa. Because of the Liberal Government’s uncompetitive policies, manufacturers will face challenges in an increasingly competitive global market place.
“This Government needs do the right thing, quit interfering, and support the auto manufacturing industry so that it can create well-paying middle class jobs in communities like Oshawa” Dr. Carrie said.
